WIP, just made it

It's Wednesday and I just barely made it in time.

I'm still working on my Starry Punch quilt. I finished piecing the back but it's so large that I don't have a large enough surface to baste it on. I'm going to wait till my MQG's sew day in June to baste it and start quilting.

Currently, I'm working on my bee quilt. Remember these blocks? Since these blocks are from my first bee and I personally know these ladies, I decided to sew their names on all these blocks using my alphabet. Here is the layout I've chosen.

I'm adding white borders to these blocks using Essex Linen. I love the feel of this fabric, I can't wait to quilt on it.

Super excited to show you more very soon. Also planning to get back to my Dead Simple quilt and my BOM quilt.

WIP, a bit frantic

It's almost the end of the month! I'm buzzing with bee blocks.

I'm hosting one of my bees next month, so I made my practice block. Not sure, I like it as much as I did originally, but I want to get my packages out tomorrow. Eek! So my real WIP is cutting all the fabric up!

One down, one to go. This paper pieced block for another bee member wasn't too bad, although my middle triangle points got cut off a bit. Thankfully the host said not perfect was ok. The other block shall be finished tonight!!

I also finished this block earlier in the week, I love the mod basics fabric. Might have to get some.

Also finished.....my New York Beauty for the Modern She Made Swap! I love it! I put triangle "hangers" on the back and bought a wire wall holder. That is going in the mail tomorrow too. Very excited, hope my partner likes it.

I can't even think straight now about what else is on deck. Hopefully I'll have another host tomorrow!

Linking up.

WIP and a few finishes

Is it really Wednesday already?

Well at least I've been getting a lot done!

I finished this needle case for my mom. She was absolutely thrilled with it, which is good because it was super putzy. Not a big fan of those kind of projects, but my mom is worth it.

I also finished this delightful baby quilt for a cousin-in-law. As previously stated, I used Malka's pattern and fabric. I quilted it by following the diagonal lines of the triangle points. It was pretty easy overall and yet it looks dynamic. Very excited to give it away this weekend.

Up next, I am making a New York Beauty from Block 0 with these fabrics. It's for my swap partner in the Modern She Made Swap. Super excited to get paper-piecing.

Then I need to cut up fabric for Bee hosting in one of my Modern 99 block bees and make some blocks for my 3 bees.

But then...I am deadline free for the foreseeable future! Yay! I've got plenty of WIP's to get back to and plenty of fabric just taunting me!!

WIP, Mother's Day Gift and a Baby Quilt

Another Wednesday, another week! It's raining today and I was hoping to get some weeding done but alas, I guess it's going to be an inside day.

It's been an interesting week in terms of my quilting endeavors. I made a trip to a few quilt shops over the weekend. I found some Flea Market Fancy and was able to pick up the Quilt Maker 100 Blocks Issue. I concluded the weekend with a trip to my LQS. The owner knows me by name now, thanks to Kona Club and she talked my ear off about Modern Quilting trends. It was super exciting. She is doing her best to lure in more Modern Quilters. She carries all the Kona solids and will be getting the new colors that are due out soon. She also carries A Stitch in Color by Malka Dubrawsky. She let me know that they have Summersville, YAY, and they are going to get Aneela Hooey's new collection in Fall. Great news. Then to top it off she asked me which designers I'd like to see in the shop. I named a few but couldn't think of all of my favs on the spot. So I asked a few of the other MQG ladies and sent her a email. She was very thankful, and just in time for market! I can't wait to see what she picks out!!!!

This week I'm working on a needle case for my mother for Mother's Day. She asked for it a while ago so I bet she won't even remember requesting it. It's from the book "Easy Japanese Quilt Style." So far, all I've done is cut it out. Should be able to whip it up fast though.

This weekend I started a baby quilt for a cousin-in-law. The baby's sex is a surprise so I'm making Malka's Superstar Baby Quilt and using her A Stitch in Color fabric. I love how it's looking so far. It's all cut out and should be a breeze to sew up. I hope she likes it!

Next up, I have to pick a New York Beauty pattern to make a mini out of for the Modern She Made Swap. Then I'll probably be back to the Sparkle Punch quilt.

I'm linking up with Lee!

2 Quilts, 8 Days

Its seems I can perform under pressure! I don't really like to work under pressure, but that's how it goes sometimes, I guess.

These two quilts were washed and wrapped in time for Saturday's party! They were both well received.

This one for my Goddaughter, is a generous twin. It features the main 4 characters of Yo Gabba Gabba in their "lands." The prints are rather loud and busy so I tried to balance this with some borders. I heard this makes my quilt not "modern," but since they are novelty prints (also not modern) it totally doesn't bother me.

I love how the scrappy back turned out, still bright but not overly busy.

For quilting, I tried to follow the general geography of the "land." Rolling hills, trees, pointy mountains and squiggly rocks. I also did some denser quilting in the borders, waves and zig-zags.

The other quilt is about 20" shorter, so still a twin size. Different fabrics, but a similar look. Unfortunately this wasn't completely finished being bound when the picture was taken, but my handy dandy quilt holder had to go out of town on business. I had to take these pics before I went and gave the quilts away!

I also made a scrappy back, I think this one turned out even better.

Zig-zags were the theme for quilting. Big ones for the larger strips of fabric and denser ones for the borders. Switching thread color added even more dimension. Very happy with how it turned out.

Now onto another last-minute project, a mother's day present for my mom and then a baby quilt for a shower the following weekend.

Busy Beaver

Wow, I've been super busy and I have soooo much more to do.

This weekend my local MQG had our monthly sew day. For our yearly charity event, we made pillowcases for the Ronald McDonald House. Here are the two I made:

Finished the guild block for the month too. Isn't it beautiful? I love the colors and patterns so much and I'm totally not a pink and purple person.

A looming deadline has also kept me uber busy. My other Goddaughter's birthday is next week and her party is on Saturday. Her little brother is celebrating too. I know that she is a huge fan of the show Yo Gabba Gabba so I when I saw the fabric come out I bought some for her and my son, also a huge fan. I asked her mom which character was her favorite so I could get a matching stuffed toy and then asked about her brother. She mentioned he likes the show too so I couldn't just make her a quilt and not him, right?

Did I mention I started these both last Thursday and the party is Saturday??? EEK! Thankfully they are "strip" quilts. Well I got my Goddaughter's done yesterday and the brother's is basted. Gotta get quilting today!!
